Four youths have been arrested for burning flyers in an HDB block in Serangoon Central.

At about 4.15pm on December 20, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division responded to a call about a group of youths seen playing with fire and burning papers in the vicinity of Block 411 Serangoon Central.

While the suspects - 2 males and 2 females, aged between 12 and 15 - had already fled the scene by the time the police arrived, the officers spotted and detained one male youth who attempted to run away upon seeing them. The other suspects were then traced and arrested through follow-up investigations.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects had used lighted matchsticks to burn the stacks of flyers. The flyers, used matchsticks and match boxes were seized as case exhibits.

Investigations against the suspects are on-going. Anyone who is convicted of mischief by fire shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
