A temple in southern Taiwan will expand its already-popular online divination service to a smartphone application in 2013, with the aim of making the 100-year-old temple better-known among netizens from home and abroad.
"With the increasing popularity of smartphones, we will launch our own divination app next year," said Hung Yang-chen, website designer for the Jhen Hai Temple in Pingtung County's Donggang Township.
The Chinese-language app will first be available on the iOS operating system and later the Android operating system, Hung told CNA Friday, adding that an English version will also be launched in the near future.
Although the app is not yet available, Hung said, people can still use the service online, in both Chinese and English.
Hung, 32, said the idea of setting up a website for the temple came from his father, Hung Chuan-jei, the temple's chief director.
"My father wanted to attract more people," he added.
