South African man with 3kg of Ice worth S$920k busted at Changi Airport

Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) have foiled the attempts of a South African man to traffic some 3kg of Ice through Changi Airport.

The drugs are worth more than S$920,000.

The 38-year-old suspect was stopped at the arrival hall for checks at about 9.45pm on Sunday. Officers found the man's behaviour suspicious as he seemed hesitant and acted nervously.

His luggage was screened and that was where officers detected anomalies. Hidden in the corner of the luggage were two trash bags with crystalline substances.

If convicted of drug trafficking, the suspect may face the death penalty.

Mr Ng Ser Song, Director of CNB, said: "We will not tolerate any drug syndicates... We will bring the full force of the law against them, swiftly and firmly."
