Two suspected loanshark runners have been arrested for harassing the residents of an Hougang unit.

The men, aged 33 and 58 years, will face charges on October 19.

Police had received a call about harassment of a unit on Hougang Avenue 1 on October 17.

Loanshark-related graffiti had also been painted on a staircase wall in the HDB block earlier. Paint was also splashed on the unit.

Two handphones, two cans of paint, four crayons and a marker were found in the suspects' possession and seized as case exhibits.

Under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition), first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment can be fined between $5,000 and $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.
