YES! WOO-HOO-HOO!!! |
The Straits Times reported on Wednesday that the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has launched a hunt for a new Lions coach to take over the Serb, who is believed to be considering a move to either the Middle East or China.
Avramovich, who has been in charge of the Singapore national team since taking over from Jan Poulsen in 2003, led the Lions to two ASEAN titles in 2004 and 2007.
But local fans have grown impatient with the 62-year-old in recent years. Singapore's dismal performance at the 2010 Suzuki Cup and the team's disappointing 2014 World Cup third-round qualifying campaign where they lost all six matches pushed Singapore's FIFA world ranking to an all-time low.
Instead of going from strength to strength, Singapore has struggled to find inspiration on the pitch, often resorting to defensive tactics.
Their current FIFA world ranking of 162 says it all -- a far cry from 2006 where they were ranked 92nd.
