Going back to school for 57-year-old Koh Yong Tee was challenging, to say the least.

For one thing, Mr Koh had to juggle hitting the textbooks with holding a full-time job as an assistant manager for Security at NTUC FairPrice.

He found that he could not study for more than 30 minutes at a time because he lost focus.

He also had trouble relating to his classmates, some of whom were more than 20 years younger. "At first it was awkward. For the first few months, (my classmates) felt like they were my students," he said.

Despite these challenges, Mr Koh beat the odds and emerged as the top student in Temasek Polytechnic's Diploma in Security & Fire Safety Management.
