The 2012 Sydney World Firefighters Games are to be held from 19 to 28 October 2012.

The Games are open to all full time, part time, on-call, volunteer and retired fire fighters, aviation, military, paramedics, SES, Country, Rural and private services. Administration and trades staff as well as direct family members are invited to participate.

2012 Sydney World Firefighters Games chief executive officer Greg Hough said Australian firefighters and volunteers were relishing the chance to engage in traditional rivalry with New Zealand and the UK as well as compete against strong teams who have entered from countries including South Africa and Hong Kong.

The World Firefighters Games is one of the world’s largest sports participation events. More than 10,000 competitors plus thousands more supporters and spectators are expected to descend on Sydney for the Games in October.

“There are more than 70 sports on the program. There is definitely something here for everyone and we are eager for all of our firefighting members and their families to get involved at the Games and re-create the Olympic spirit in Sydney,’’ Mr Hough said.

From the legendary Toughest Firefighter Alive competition to Tug-of-War, Darts and Dragon Boat Racing as well as family friendly events including the Amazing Race and Beach Cricket, the sports program caters for competitive and recreational athletes.

A high quality entertainment program featuring international stars will accompany the sports events, creating a terrific party atmosphere all set against the magnificent Sydney Harbour, Olympic venues and beaches of Sydney in springtime.
