With the mid-autumn festival around the corner, the police have reminded the public to be responsible in the way they use sparklers.
While it is legal to import and sell some types of sparklers in Singapore, users should follow the safety guidelines laid down by the manufacturer, said the police.
The police said they take a serious view of people setting off improvised explosive devices produced as sparklers, and warned that such devices are potential fire hazards and cause noise pollution and undue alarm to the public.
The blast effect from the explosion can injure someone and damage property, added the police.
Anyone caught setting off improvised explosive devices can be prosecuted and if convicted, can be jailed up to one year or fined up to S$5,000, or both.
