After missing the deadline to enter a cake competition, Singaporean chef Nicholas Ang made a note of it in his calendar this year so he would not forget.
Entering for the first time, Mr Ang won third prize in the 3D category for the 2012 Threadcakes competition. Organised by T-shirt brand Threadless, the online contest invites bakers to create edible renditions of their favourite Threadless shirt designs.
Mr Ang, 32, co-owner and chef of local patisserie Cake Over Heels, based his winning cake was on the design 'Mermaid, It's What's For Dinner'.
The cake base is made of a rich and dense chocolate fudge, layered with earl grey syrup and dark chocolate ganache, he said.
Overall, the cake took about 15 hours over two days to complete. He described the process in his submission comments.
