National sprinter Gary Yeo won the Singapore National Games Men's 100-metre Open at the Bishan Stadium on Saturday.

Yeo, in lane six, was the favourite but suffered a slow start before storming home to take the tightly-contested final for Pasir-Ris Punggol.

The Olympian clocked 10.84 seconds, pipping Tampines's Lee Cheng Wei by 0.05 seconds.

Elfi Mustapa, also of Pasir-Ris Punggol, finished third with 10.98 seconds.

In the Women's 100-metre Open, Choa Chu Kang's Xu Wei Xin blazed down the straight to dominate the three-woman final.

The 27-year-old stamped her authority on the games, taking gold in 13.74 seconds.

The silver medal went to Sembawang's Ismarina Ismail, who was nearly four seconds slower, while Marine Parade's Nithya Ramachanran settled for bronze.
