The Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) has submitted a bid to the Badminton World Federation for hosting rights to the next cycle (2014 to 2017) of Superseries Premier events.
If successful, the Republic's tournament would be one of just five such events in the world. The current five are the Korea Open, All-England Championships, Indonesia Open, Denmark Open and the China Open.
The world's top 10 shuttlers are required to play in Superseries Premier events, which will offer a prize purse of at least US$500,000 (S$628,000) starting 2014.
The Singapore Open, which the Republic currently hosts, is a Superseries-level event, a tier below Premier events. It will feature a prize purse of US$250,000 from the 2014-2017 cycle.
