The chance to be with his long-distance tanker driver father during the three-day Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah break, proved fatal for a Year Two pupil of SK Bandar Sibu, Sarawak.
Bryant Tiong Kung Yan, 8, was killed when his father's tanker crashed into the rear of a stationary lorry near Sungai Selat in Tatau, 30km from here.
In the 11.24am incident, Bryant died on the spot.
His father, Ing Tung, 44, suffered light injuries and received outpatient treatment at Bintulu Hospi-tal.
Bryant, who was pinned to his seat, was believed to have died of lacerations to his stomach, caused by sharp metal parts of the tanker.
The driver and attendant of the lorry escaped unhurt.
"I noticed that the tanker was travelling at high speed and failed to brake in time to avoid crashing into my lorry," lorry driver Latip Kerani, 42, said.
The impact threw Latip off his vehicle.
Bryant's body was sent to Bintulu Hospital for a post-mortem.
The collision took place on the crest of a hill.
According to police, drivers coming from here would not be able to see down the hillslope unless they were near.
