The National Day Parade 2012 will be held on Thursday, 9 August 2012, at the floating platform at Marina Bay. The reserve date for the parade will be on Saturday, 11 August 2012.

TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS

To facilitate the event, the roads and lanes listed in Annex A will be closed to vehicular traffic on 9 August 2012.

During the event, access to the affected roads will only be granted to authorised vehicles displaying the approved labels as well as Police and emergency vehicles. Auxiliary Police officers, SAF marshals and Police officers will be deployed at the affected junctions to assist and direct motorists.

Public bus services affected by the road closures will be diverted accordingly.

Traffic delays are expected along Raffles Boulevard, Raffles Avenue, Republic Avenue, Bras Basah Road, Nicoll Highway, Esplanade Drive and Bayfront Avenue. Motorists are advised to plan their route early and avoid these areas. Those travelling to the vicinity of Suntec City and Marina Square are advised to use public transport.

Motorists proceeding to Suntec City and Marina Square from Crawford Street and Ophir Road are advised to use alternate routes via Nicoll Highway or Beach Road.

Parking restrictions along the peripheral roads will be strictly enforced.  Vehicles found parking indiscriminately and/or causing obstruction will be towed away.

SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS
Large crowds are expected at the Esplanade Waterfront Promenade, Marina Bay Sands Waterfront and Merlion Park. Police may close off these locations should overcrowding occur.

The pedestrian pavement along ECP (Sheares Bridge) will also be closed to the public.

The public is advised to be vigilant and to safeguard their belongings.

Admission into The Float @ Marina Bay
Admission into The Float @ Marina Bay will only be allowed for ticket holders. The gates will be open from 4.00pm. Ticket holders are advised to arrive early to allow ample time for security checks and to find their seats before the start of the Parade. Ticket holders are encouraged to take public transport, and allocate more time for their journey into the Marina Bay area as congestion is expected.

Security Checks
To ensure safety and security at the event, security checks on persons and belongings will be conducted as a condition of entry.

Walk-through metal detector gantries for persons and x-ray machines for personal items will be used.

The public is advised to minimise the amount of personal belongings brought into the venue to facilitate quick security clearance.

Any container (100ml capacity or larger) containing liquid, aerosol or gel will be subjected to additional checks.

Canned drinks and canned items will not be allowed into the venue.

Each ticket holder will receive an NDP Fun Pack containing amongst other items, 2 bottles of water, 2 packet drinks, and light snacks.

Prohibited items, including keychains and lighters shaped like a gun, pistol, bullet or grenade, need to be discarded before entry is allowed.

Post-event Dispersal
After the Parade has ended, dispersal is likely to be slow due to the large crowd expected in the Marina Bay area. The public is advised to be patient and to follow the directions of the Police and SAF marshals.

As City Hall MRT, Promenade MRT and Bayfront MRT Station s are expected to be very crowded during dispersal, commuters may consider heading towards Raffles Place MRT, Esplanade MRT, Bugis MRT or Clarke Quay MRT Stations. Adequate signs will be in place to direct commuters to these MRT Stations.

The flying of kites or remote-controlled aircraft is strictly prohibited at Marina East and Marina South during the parade for safety and security reasons.

Similar arrangements will apply should the National Day Parade, for any reason, be postponed to 11 August 2012.  We seek the understanding and co-operation of the public.
