Some 26,000 Singaporeans turned up at the Marina Bay floating platform to celebrate Singapore's 47th year of independence on August 9.

Gleeful citizens decked out in red and white watched the National Day Parade (NDP) from spectator stands and sang in unison to the nation's anthem.

Themed "Loving Singapore, Our Home", this year's NDP celebrated national unity and the Singapore spirit.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam completed his first parade inspection as Head of State.

Members of Parliament wore red and white outfits regardless of party loyalties.

Spectators onsite and at home watched fireworks fill the sky before the parade came to a close at about 8.15pm.

Also present were parade VIPs like Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Goh Chok Tong.
