Thursday's Singapore League Cup Results

Group B
Geylang United 2-0 Albirex Niigata

Group D
Gombak United 1-1 Tampines Rovers

Geylang United recorded a shock 2-0 victory over Albirex Niigata on Thursday to finish top of Group B in the Singapore League Cup.

The Eagles have been struggling in the Great Eastern-YEO's S.League all season long but gave their fans something to cheer about earlier in the week when they booked their place in the League Cup quarter-finals after beating Balestier Khalsa 3-1 at the Toa Payoh Stadium.

Mid-season signing Stefan Milojevic put Geylang ahead in two minutes before the break with a well-taken goal, before Shah Hirul sealed all three points in the 59th minute when he grabbed a second.

Over at the Jurong West Stadium, league champions Tampines Rovers played out a 1-1 draw with Gombak United to ensure they would finish top of Group D.

Gombak went ahead in the 14th minute when French forward Julien Durand capitalised on a mistake by Stags goalkeeper Sasa Dreven to put his side ahead.

However, Tampines equalised four minutes after the hour mark when Ismail Yunos scored an own-goal after getting into a mix-up with Zaiful Nizam, although the result was still enough to see the Bulls progress to the last eight at the expense of Woodlands Wellington.
