Platform to promote animal welfare to be set up next month

An e-consultation platform for the public to give suggestions for better animal welfare will be set up next month by the Animal Welfare Legislation Review Committee (AWLRC).

Among  AWLRC's considerations are a need for stiffer penalties such as higher fines and jail terms for those found to have committed acts of animal cruelty.

Formed early this year, the committee has held six consultation sessions, and will be handing in their recommendations to review the current legislations on animal welfare to the government by this year end.
