Singapore swimmers Joseph Schooling and Lynette Lim failed to advance in their respective events in in the London 2012 Olympic Games Thursday.

Schooling clocked a time of 53.63 seconds to come in third in heat 2 of the men's 100m butterfly event, but that was not enough for him to qualify for the semi-finals. Overall, he placed 35th out of 43 contestants.

His time was slower than his personal best of 53.18 seconds set at the SEA Games in Indonesia last year.

Schooling earlier failed to make it to the semis in the 200m butterfly event after having to change his cap and goggles minutes before the heat started. Singapore sports authorities are looking into the controversy.

Lim ended seventh out of eight in heat 2 of the women's 800m freestyle event with a time of 8 minutes and 52.92 seconds.
