Shuttler Derek Wong put up a creditable effort, but was neither as consistent nor technically-sound as Denmark's world No. 13 Jan O Jorgensen.

The Singaporean world No. 60 lost 17-21, 14-21, ending his Olympic campaign at the London Games.

Earlier, women's doubles pair Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei also finished their run at the quadrennial event. They lost 16-21, 15-21 to India's Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, making it three losses out of as many matches.

This means that Gu Juan remains Singapore's only representative left in the badminton tournament. She plays Chinese Taipei's Cheng Shao-chieh Wednesday in the round of 16.
