A search and rescue operation is underway for a missing full-time National Serviceman in Brunei's Temburong training area.

Lance-Corporal (LCP) Muhammad Fahrurrazi Bin Salim, 20, was reported missing earlier on Sunday morning during a water crossing training exercise.

A MINDEF press release said LCP Fahrurrazi was the coxswain -- or the one in charge of navigating and steering the boat -- in a convoy of four boats being used to support the water crossing segment of the jungle training exercise at Sungei Batu Apoi, Temburong.

He was last seen wearing a life jacket on his boat at 7:55 am. But at 8:00 am, his boat was noticed not to have followed the convoy.

The convoy turned around and found LCP Fahrurrazi's boat at 8:01am.

Search operations began immediately with RSAF naval divers and the Brunei Armed Forces part of the search party.

Training in the Temburong training area has been suspended.

Singapore maintains a training establishment in Brunei, known as the Jalan Aman Camp, as well a military camp in the Lakiun Camp in Temburong.
