The Istana grounds will be open to the public this Sunday, August 5, 2012, from 8.30am to 6pm, to celebrate National Day.

The annual Istana Art Event will also be held on the same day. Activities include a Arts and Heritage Village featuring booths by the various museums and the National Library Board, where visitors can participate in many hands-on activities.

There will also be the on-the-spot Art Competition for children aged 3-12, as well as an exhibit of miniature horses by the Singapore Zoo.

Visitors will be entertained by performances put up by the SAF Music and Drama Company, Yuhua Secondary School Band and PA Talents.

Additionally, there will also be performing groups from various grassroots organisations and community arts and culture interest groups from the community clubs.

Entry to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents.

Others visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of $1 per person. Entrance to the Istana grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. The nearest MRT station is Dhoby Ghaut.

Members of the public can also tour selected function rooms in the Istana building to view a display of gifts presented to the President and the Prime Minister by foreign dignitaries, for an additional fee of $2.

Istana souvenirs will be sold during the Open House. Proceeds from the sale of souvenirs and all entrance fees collected will be donated to the President's Challenge Fund.
