It flies higher, sees further and can stay operational for a longer period of time.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force's new eye in the sky - the Heron 1, was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at Murai Camp.
Guest of honour Dr Ng Eng Hen, the Minister for Defence, said the new unmanned aerial vehicles will provide better situational awareness to soldiers and enable them to make better decisions while out on missions. The Heron 1 replaces the Searcher which was first used in 1994.
It has several distinct advantages - it can fly twice as high as 20,000 feet, can last three times longer at up to 24 hours, and at 200 km, be able to operate at twice the range distance.
