A glass panel shattered on board a train today.

Train operator SMRT said no one was injured in the incident.

An SMRT spokesperson said a passenger on board the North-South Line train alerted staff to the incident by activating the emergency communication button around 12.10pm.

Mr Jay Kay Zhang, who wrote in to Channel NewsAsia about the incident, said he activated the button after hearing the shatter of glass, just as the train approached Admiralty Station from Woodlands Station.

Mr Zhang added that he did not see anyone standing near or leaning on the glass panel.

According to him, an elderly couple sitting near the panel were in shock.

Mr Zhang said SMRT staff rushed to the scene within few minutes.

SMRT said the affected train has been withdrawn from service.

It will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the shattered glass panel.
