More on fatal accident at Marina

Ref: Marina car crash: Wife dies, hubby nabbed for drink driving

The man who crashed into a stationary bus on Sunday was arrested by the police and released on bail the same day following investigations, according to a report in The Straits Times.

The report identified the man as Mr Bobby Elfian, a safety officer. He was charged with suspected drink driving and causing death by a rash act. The accident killed the man's wife, 25-year-old Siti Norliza, who was seated next to him.

The report said Mr Bobby's Toyota Vios had allegedly collided with a lorry that was leaving a construction site near Marina Centre Bus Terminal on Sunday morning at about 8am.

The car spun and hit a stationary bus parked at the terminal. Police personnel and Singapore Civil Defence Force officers soon arrived at the scene. Ms Siti was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News, Mr Bobby was so distraught by the death of his wife that he had tried to pry open the door of the Toyota Vios, which was mangled on one side.

Later Mr Bobby took off his shirt and was involved in a standoff with the police. A Traffic Police officer was also seen comforting him.

Mr Bobby only calmed down half an hour later and agreed to go to the hospital.

The Chinese-language report added on Monday that the couple, who had been married for six years, have two children aged two and four.

Mr Bobby's mother said her son was upset after the accident and spent the whole day crying. He said his mind was a blank and that he could not remember anything about the accident, the report said.
