FA Cup: Kelantan, Terengganu stunned in first leg semis

Saturday's Malaysia FA Cup Semi-final Results
Kelantan 1-1 Kedah
Terengganu 1-2 Sime Darby FC

Malaysia Super League giants Kelantan and Terengganu both failed to pick up wins on Saturday in the first-leg of their FA Cup semi-final ties.

League champions Kelantan were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow Super League side Kedah at the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium, despite entering the game as heavy favourites.

The Red Warriors started brightly, with Shakir Shaari testing Helmi Eliza Elias in the sixth minute with a blistering long-range effort, while Suppiah Chanturu was causing major problems for the visiting defence.

In the 16th minute, Kelantan duly went ahead when captain Badri Radzi started off a nice move involving Mohammad Ghaddar, before laying the ball on for Norshahrul Idlan Talaha to fire home.

However, Kedah hit back 11 minutes later when Croatian import Vedran Gerc won possession in his own half and made his way past Zairul Fitree and Obinna Nwaneri, before blasting his shot past Khairul Fahmi Che Mat.

The game then turned ugly in the second half when Kedah's Syukri Wan Ahmad received his marching orders for a studs-up challenge on Zamri Ramli, before the hosts were also reduced to ten men when Daudsu Jamaluddin was sent off.

In the other semi-final, defending champions Terengganu were stunned by second division Sime Darby FC as they fell to a 2-1 loss at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium.

Sime Darby took a 52nd-minute lead when Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh fired past Sharbinee Allawee, although Francis Forkey Doe, who is currently the top scorer in the Super League, equalised three minutes later.

However, there was to be no denying the visitors as they went on to grab the win through Syukor Saidin two minutes into injury time.

The return legs will take place on May 1, with Sime Darby entertaining Terengganu at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium, while Kelantan will travel to play Kedah at the Darul Aman Stadium.
