Changi Village shopowners to set up Sunday market to boost flagging business

Desperate shop owners in Changi Village have decided to set up a Sunday market to boost their business, which has been flagging since a popular hawker centre closed for upgrading.

They have been granted co-funding from the Housing Board, and hope the project will help bring weekend crowds back to the rustic neighbourhood.

Business at provision shops, clothing stores and pharmacies has fallen by between 20 and 50 per cent since the hawker centre at Blocks 2 and 3 closed last month.

Snaking queues were once a regular feature at its popular stalls, which served up favourites like nasi lemak and fried Hokkien mee.
