A 47-year-old woman was arrested on March 19 for selling fake foreign student identification cards (ICs).

The police first received information on March 18 about a Bencoolen Street printing shop allegedly selling fake foreign student ICs.

The shop was raided on March 19 and the shop owner was arrested.

Templates of foreign student cards which were believed to have been forged were found in the shop's computer.

Printing-related items such as a computer, a cutter, plastic lamination cards and nine counterfeit student ICs were seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect provided printing services and sale of counterfeit student identification cards for prices between $25 and $65.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.

Under the Penal Code, offenders found guilty of committing forgery for the purpose of cheating can be jailed up to 10 years, and can also be fined.

Commander of Central Police Division Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Hung Hooi advised members of the public that it is an offence to carry or use forged identification cards or documents.

He said that the police will not hesitate to prosecute anyone who commits forgery of such documents.
