SMRT completes investigation on breakdowns

SMRT's internal investigation team has completed its investigation into the disruptions to train services in December, said the transport operator today.

The SMRT Board has, in turn, submitted the team's report to the Committee of Inquiry (COI), convened by the Government.

But, it will not be released to the public as yet.

A SMRT spokesperson said: "We decided not to make public the report now as we do not wish to have our report seen as the definitive one by the public, when there are other investigations proceeding.

"It is best that all the findings and recommendations be revealed through the COI proceedings, to give the public a full picture," the spokesperson added.

The team, independent of management, was commissioned to review the causes of the disruptions and the organisation's response to them, and make recommendations to both prevent a recurrence and improve the organisation's response capabilities.

"Since the December 2011 incidents, SMRT has been implementing its improvement plan with a view of preventing a recurrence and enhancing its capabilities to respond to train disruption events," said the operator in a statement.

"SMRT appreciates the findings and recommendations provided by the IIT (internal investigation team) and will carefully study and evaluate them, and consider further improvement measures that may be required," it added.

SMRT said it will await the findings of the COI and will implement further improvements as may be needed.
