Man found out he had slept with a minor... after being punched by the latter's brother

A human resource firm manager who was afraid that the girl he brought home would be reported as missing was sentenced to nine months jail on Friday for having sex with a minor.

He pleaded guilty to the deed on March 2, 2012.

The Straits Times reported that Kanmani Saran Kumar, 25, slept with a 15-year-old girl after getting to know her on Facebook, in September 2010. He even told her family about it, after the girl stayed on in his apartment and refused to go home.

The secondary school student posed as a 24-year-old when the couple first met online. They later met at a McDonald's outlet in East Coast the next month, and went back to his apartment together. The Indian national and permanent resident commented that she looked no older than 18 or 19, but did not pursue her age, when the teen said she did not wish to discuss it.

When the girl refused to leave his Havelock Road apartment after spending the night with him, he got his flatmate to checking her mobile phone and contact her family, as he was afraid her parents would file a missing persons report.

The girl's mother and elder brother arrived, and Kanmani realised that she was an underaged teen after the girl's brother punched him and scolded him for sleeping with a 15-year-old.

The girl's mother lodged a police report, with a medical examination showing that her daughter had fresh hymenal tears.
