SCDF, CNB chiefs in CPIB probe

Civil defence, narcotics chiefs in CPIB probe
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) chief Peter Lim Sin Pang, 51 and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) director Ng Boon Gay, 44, have been removed from their posts and are being investigated by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

They are helping in the CPIB probe following allegations of 'serious personal misconduct'.

Taking into account the current status of the investigations, both will be interdicted from their duties with effect from Jan 25 2012, pending disciplinary proceedings.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also decided to appoint Mr Eric Yap Wee Teck, 43 and Mr Ng Ser Song, 49, to assume command of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) respectively with effect from Feb 1 2012.

Eugene Tan, a law lecturer at Singapore Management University, said the investigation of the two senior officials is a blow to the government, which boasts about the care taken when making senior appointments.

"But the fact that these probes are taking place also underlines the robustness and integrity of the system."
