Lukewarm takings for cabbies during CNY

This is the first Chinese New Year since the recent taxi fare hikes.

For a minority, business is up by 10 to 15 per cent, but this was not the case for some taxi drivers, who reported lower takings.

Said taxi driver Magendran: "It's terrible, I think because of the fare increase this year. Not like last year or the previous year when it was wonderful."

He also said that his takings on the two days leading up to Chinese New Year were "very bad".

"I am not surprised because each time they structure the fare, this is the problem we face as taxi drivers."
