And the world's Best Transport Award goes to... not Singapore

The New York-based non-profit Institute for Transportation & Development Policy has bestowed upon San Francisco the 2011 Sustainable Transport Award for serving as a global leader in innovative polices on issues ranging from parking to bike lanes.

San Francisco shared this year's award with Medellin, Columbia and runners-up Cape Town, South Africa and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Touting the city's recent green transportation efforts San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said, "San Francisco is taking on problems all cities face, such as congestion and the need for clean transportation and open space, and finding innovative solutions that are being modeled throughout the country."
