On both occasions, the elderly victim was manning her newsstand alone when the youths struck.

In the first case on 2 Dec, the two youths approached the newsstand and pretended to browse some magazines. One of them suddenly grabbed a container containing the cash and they both fled.

Several days later on 7 Dec, the youths approached the same newsstand and again made away with a container and a pouch containing cash.

In total, the duo had stolen cash of almost S$100 from the elderly victim.

On receipt of the police report, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division sprang into action and flooded the ground to conduct enquiries.

On 13 December 2011 , through painstaking enquiries conducted, the officers managed to locate one of the youths who fitted the description provided by the victim. On being interviewed, the youth admitted to his deeds and was arrested. Further investigation led to the arrest of the second culprit.

The two youths have been released on Police bail pending further investigation under an offence of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone who is convicted of theft shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.
