The Best iPhone Games Of 2011, as rated by Apple

As part of its annual App Store Rewind series, Apple shone a spotlight on iPhone games naming "Tiny Tower", which is free, as the top Apple iPhone game.

Seven other games also earned nods from Apple.


1. Tiny Tower (free) taps our inner Donald Trump, as we grow an economic empire by building towers and populating them with businesses and bitizens. We find its marriage of time management and social gameplay irresistible," Apple wrote of Tiny Tower.

2. Tiny Wings ($.99) was one of two game-of-the-year "runners-up" selected by Apple.

"We're hooked on this game, which transforms beautiful hills into jumps to help our cute bird soar into the clouds," wrote Apple. "The farther we fly the more daylight we find, but one mistake could be the difference between high scores and the dead of night.

3. The second of two "Game of the Year" runner-ups, Touchgrind BMX ($4.99) lets users perform tricks on bikes they control with their fingers, then allows them share the runs with friends.

Apple writes of the app, "Unleash your inner adrenaline junkie in this outstanding Multi-Touch stunt racer. Trot the world, earning bikes and medals as you flip, spin, and grind your way to victory. Complete with leaderboards and custom replay videos for bragging rights."

4. Scribblenauts Remix ($2.99) is a puzzle game that challenges players to "help Maxwell acquire the Starite by creating any object, bringing it to life and using it to solve each challenge".

5. Jetpack Joyride ($.99) features Barry Steakfries, who "[commandeers] the experimental jetpacks from the clutches of science evildoers." Players take on the evil scientists, fly through the air and collect points that can be exchanged for new gear.

6. The tagline for Modern Combat 3 ($6.99): "When war hits home, abandon all fear."

In this first person shooter game, one of five iPhone games spotlighted by Apple, players wage an "apocalyptic battle for the freedom of the United States," which can be played by up to 12 people and offers "customized weapons" as well as an assortment of gameplay types.

7.  In the puzzle game iBlast Moki 2 ($2.99), players are challenged to help the round, cooing Mokis reach the "magic spiral" by exploding a variety of bombs and building an assortment of contraption.

8. Infinity Blade II ($6.99) ushers users into a fantastical, medieval-themed world of spells, beasts, and warriors.
