The 13-year-old boy who adopted dogs for free and then sold them for pocket money has been given a conditional police warning.

Pet lovers on the Internet had been calling for action from the authorities since the scam came to light in May.

Posing as a grieving dog owner, the boy approached several people online and pleaded with them to let him adopt their pedigree dogs.

He even milked their sympathy by saying their dogs reminded him of his own pet that died recently. But as soon as the animals were handed over, he put them up for sale online and raked in a handsome profit. He was caught after two dog owners made police reports.
