According to eye witnesses, a group of three men and a woman, who appeared to be foreigners, were making a nuisance of themselves at the jetty.
A scuffle broke out between one of the men and a local woman who had told the group to quieten down when the latter subsequently scratched the man on his face.Her boyfriend then stepped in to protect her and was punched by the man. Friends from both parties immediately tried to stop the fight.
Here is what a netizen who witnessed the incident had to say about it:
"At around 2am today (October 16) at Bedok Jetty, a group of drunk foreigners - three men and a woman - were drinking and making a nuisance at the jetty.
"The three men who were twice the size of a local guy, beat up the Singaporean man who was protecting his girlfriend from harassment.
"The foreigners seemed to be students here, and they could speak English quite well.
"I could tell from their accent and conversation that they were foreigners.
"Friends of the victim called the police and ambulance as he was bleeding from his nose and mouth and was experiencing double vision. He was sent to the hospital following his statement.

"The three foreigners walked out of the jetty smiling and even applauded when the locals made comments about how unfair the situation was."
The police confirmed a scuffle at Bedok Jetty saying that had received a call requesting for assistance at about 2.25 am.A spokesman added that statements were recorded from eye witnesses at the scene and both parties were advised on their legal recourse.
"The case has been classified as voluntarily causing hurt, section 323 of penal code."
If found guilty, both parties face a maximum jail term of 2 years, or with fine which of $5,000.
