CBT OF Taxi Drivers’ Handphones Suspect Arrested

Between May and October 2011, Police have received several reports of mobile phone being stolen from taxi drivers in Bedok, Jurong and Ang Mo Kio housing estates.

The suspect would board the taxis and request to be sent to a number of locations. During the journey, she would engage the taxi drivers in conversation before making a few calls on her mobile phone.

Subsequently, she would ask to borrow the taxi drivers’ mobile phones, claiming that her own mobile phone was low on battery or faulty. Upon reaching the drop-off locations, she would alight on the pretext of running for errands while taking her victims’ mobile phones along with her.

Following the reports, officers from Bedok Police Division pursued all available leads and through their protracted investigations, the identity of the suspect was established. On 25 October 2011 at about 10.00pm, the officers mounted an ambush and arrested her.
