According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), it received a call at 2.25pm that a boy's toe was stuck in the escalator.

However, the boy and his family had already left for the hospital when its officers arrived at the scene seven minutes later.

Mr Soo told MediaCorp that he saw SCDF officers "removing something from the escalator and putting it into a bucket with ice".
