Singapore's population hits 5.18 million

Singapore's population has reached 5.18 million from 5.08 million last year. Of that, only 3.26 million are citizens.

The number of foreigners who are working, studying or living here but not granted permanent resident status - rose to 1.39 million this year from 1.31 million in 2010.

In contrast, the number of permanent residents is 532,000, a drop from 541,000 in 2010.
