Cable Thief Involved In A Spate Of Cases Arrested

Since July 2011, at least four cases of theft of cables were reported in Ang Mo Kio Neighbourhoods 4 and 5. The cables were reported stolen from makeshift stores at the void decks of the HDB blocks undergoing lift upgrading works.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the culprit forced open the makeshift metal partitions and broke open the padlocks to gain entry. The cables reported stolen were valued at about $25,000 in total.

The culprit proved to be elusive, but the officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division remain undeterred. Following extensive enquiries and investigations, the officers eventually managed to establish the identity of the suspect, and arrested him on the morning of 16 August 2011.

The suspect, a 53-year-old man, will be charged in court on 17 August 2011 for the offence of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 3 years, or a fine, or both. A Court order would be sought for the suspect to be remanded for further investigations.
