SCDF suggests emergency teams for hospitals, public buildings

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) says it's looking to extend the requirement of having in-house Company Emergency Response Teams (Certs) to public and industrial buildings by 2012.

It's proposing that the requirement cover public and industrial buildings which are at least nine storeys high, and also hospitals.

The proposal also recommends that buildings which have at least 1,000 occupants, and those with a floor area of at least 5,000 square metres, also be covered.

The regulations now cover premises storing more than 5,000 litres or 5,000 kg of petroleum and flammable materials.

Meanwhile, it has set up an association for people who've been trained to handle fire and other workplace emergencies.

The Association of Company Emergency Response Teams wants to promote continual development, professionalism and excellence in the field of emergency response and crisis management.

The association will also make it easier for the SCDF to disseminate information.
