On the Hungaroring track where he won his first F1 race five years ago, the 31-year-old Briton came in 3.588 seconds ahead of Germany's championship leader Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull with Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Ferrari in third at 19.819.
Defending champion Vettel, fighting back after being fourth two-thirds into the race, now has an 85 point lead in the championship on his teammate Mark Webber of Australia who finished fifth.
