As a result, the student had to have an abortion in July 2010 when she was only 15 years old.
Prior to that, the girl's mother had brought her to a neighbourhood police centre to lodge a report against the man.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the girl's identity, confronted her about a month later, asking the teenager if she had told the authorities about their sexual encounters.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Lydia Goh said that the girl denied it at first but when he repeatedly questioned her, she admitted that she had done so.
Enraged, the man hit the girl in the eye, causing it to bleed.
The man was sentenced to eight weeks' jail on Monday after pleading guilty to one carnal connection charge and another for assault.
Two other charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.
APP Goh said that the pair has not been in contact with each other since 5 November last year.
