WHILE working as a croupier at the Resorts World Sentosa casino, Kent Oh Zhi Xiang, 22, would pay more to friends when they came to his table to change chips into smaller denominations. Over a four-month period in 2010, he committed criminal breach of trust of about $100,000.
Oh pleaded guilty on Monday, and was jailed two years. A district court heard that he was discovered after a patron told security staff on Nov 18 last year that a croupier was seen overpaying two patrons. These are believed to be Lim Chee Leng, 33, jobless, and his 56-year-old taxi driver father, Lim Eng Chin. A check of the video footage showed that when the two Lims came to change their chips, Oh gave them an extra $100 chip.
Investigations also revealed that they hatched the plan in July 2010 and split the proceeds equally between Oh and the two Lims. Within his eight-hour shift, Oh cheated the casino of about $2,000 and the two Lims were said to be frequent visitors. From Oct 16 to Nov 18, they had gone to the casino 16 times.
Father and son have not been dealt with.
