Bayern Munich are back in the Champions League places, taking advantage of a 1-0 home defeat for Hannover against Borussia Monchengladbach to leapfrog them with a 4-1 home victory over Schalke.
Arjen Robben put them 1-0 up after six minutes, and although that was immediately cancelled out by a Holger Badstuber own goal, further strikes from Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez in the 13th and 19th minutes set Bayern up for victory.
Muller made sure with his second six minutes from time.

But Hannover suffered a major setback as they lost to relegation-battling Monchengladbach.
Marco Reus scored the only goal of the match in the 76th minute to give Gladbach their first win in Hannover in 22 years.
After three victories in their last four games Gladbach lie in 17th place on 32 points, three points from safety.

Elkin Soto scored two goals as Mainz saw off 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 to maintain their hold on the final Europa League spot.
Andreas Ivanschitz gave fifth-placed Mainz the lead after 26 minutes before Soto made it 2-0 in the 38th minute.
Frankfurt went a man down after 43 minutes with Sebastian Rode's red card and Soto increased the lead to 3-0 just before the break.
Frankfurt, who have won just once in their last 15 matches, remain in the drop zone.

Stuttgart scored twice within five minutes to reverse an early deficit at Hoffenheim and take another step away from the relegation zone with a 2-1 win.
Peniel Mlapa gave Hoffenheim the lead after 14 minutes before Cacau equalised on 63 minutes and Zdravko Kuzmanovic hit Stuttgart's winner from the penalty spot.
Stuttgart have lost just once in their last nine games to improve to 39 points in 12th place - five points from a relegation spot.

Papiss Demba Cisse scored twice as Freiburg beat Hamburg 2-0 in a clash of teams with little to play for in the final stretch.
Cisse struck in the 16th and 88th minutes to take his tally to 22 for the season, one behind current top scorer Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich.
