Swift Arrest Of Snatch Theft And Outrage Of Modesty Suspect In Yishun Early This Morning

On 24 April 2011 at about 12.50 am, the victim, a 17-year-old female Chinese youth, met up with the unknown suspect and followed him to a block at Yishun Central. At the said block, the suspect outraged the victim's modesty, before snatching away her mobile phone valued at about $310. Police were then alerted to the incident.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division responded immediately to the scene and through swift follow-up investigations and enquiries, managed to establish the identity of the suspect. Within 12 hours of the incident, the suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Yishun Street 61. The victim's mobile phone was also successfully recovered.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 25 April 2011 for Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum punishment of seven years' imprisonment and caning. He will also be liable for the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354A(1) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years' imprisonment and caning.
