Seven hospitalized by improperly disposed Police tear gas

Seven people were treated at Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington after they complained of breathing distress, burning eyes and a tight chest. All have been released from the hospital.

The seven became sick after white smoke emanated from a trash bin as it was being emptied into a garbage truck near Darrington City Hall and the fire station.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said the canisters were from the department and had been expended. However, some residual tear gas remained in the canisters.

Spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said the sheriff's office is looking into how the package of cannisters was disposed of "so we can work to make sure this doesn't happen again."
