PHILADELPHIA — A mentally ill woman with a gun who had threatened to kill herself and her 10-year-old was taken in to custody Friday by police using a Taser stun gun, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.
Alicia Vicario, 37, had been staying at a house on Houston Road that was owned by a friend, but she overstayed her welcome and refused to leave, police said.
On Thursday, her two aunts told police that Vicario had mental-health issues and a gun and that she had barricaded herself and her son in the home, Chitwood said.
Police got one of the aunts to talk the woman out and "she comes out carrying the gun in a firing position," Chitwood said.
One of the police officers hit Vicario with his Taser, which knocked the gun out of her hand, he said. She was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.
