Subsidies up, further education for working adults now easier

The fee subsidies for part-time courses at polytechnics and universities will go up, resulting in course fees being cut by up to 50 per cent in some cases.

The Government will also provide more places.

The five polytechnics will expand their capacity by 60 per cent to provide 10,000 training places yearly by 2015.

Currently, a student is subsidised for only his first advanced specialist diploma.

To enable workers to stay current in their work sector or to switch careers, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will now give a 70 per cent subsidy for those taking up a second advanced or specialist diploma.
