ST Poll: Designated bike lanes ranked best safety measure

Readers were asked: Which would be most effective at improving safety for cyclists and motorists?

The poll had been created in response to an online debate sparked earlier this week by a Straits Times Forum letter calling for recreational cyclists to stay home and use stationary bikes instead.

Designating cycling lanes was deemed the most effective measure for making roads safe for cyclists and motorists, in an online poll conducted by The Straits Times on Wednesday.

It emerged as the clear favourite among 2,200 readers who responded, with more than a quarter giving it the thumbs up.
