Police officer, 29, dies after surgery for job-related injury

Shandon Wright, 29, a five-year veteran of Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, was home with his wife and 2-year-old daughter, recovering from surgery for a duty-related injury when he began having trouble breathing.

About 50 off-duty deputies rushed to Wright’s home when they heard paramedics had been called there.

"They worked on him as hard as they could but he passed away,” department spokesman Sgt. Ed Troyer was reported as saying. “This is a duty-related death. Everybody’s shocked at what happened.”

“This young man’s life revolved around his family and his sense of duty to the community,” Troyer added.“We honor him and we will miss him terribly.”
